If you’ve walked or driven past the building in the last few weeks you may have noticed that most of the gym has now been demolished. This work was approved as part of the planning application (GBC 2022/1359) which has now been approved. The structure became unsafe due to exposure to the elements and its demolition took place to reduce risks to neighbouring properties, residents and passing vehicles, and the remaining station building.
Funding for work on the first phase of regeneration, as presented to the local community at our open day and public consultation during 2021 is being applied for. Our Community Infrastructure Levy application has been shortlisted and our National Lottery Heritage Fund application is well advanced and will be submitted shortly with decisions on both expected during the next few months. We have been in close contact with both, and are optimistic we will continue progress towards delivering what the community wants and needs.
